The Rosticceria opened in December, serving dishes inspired by travels to central Italy, such as porchetta.
"It is a deliciously moist pork roast that has spent six hours cooking and is seasoned with wild fennel pollen. The generous portion is served with hunks of deceptively simple-looking roast potatoes and a Noble Bread roll," according to Phoenix New Times' first taste of the restaurant. "It’s the type of meal one could imagine being served in ancient Rome and ties the restaurant’s theme all together."
The restaurant also served Florentine-inspired sandwiches, pasta, herb-rubbed rotisserie chicken and an over-the-top, build-your-own milkshake bar in an upbeat, eclectic space that featured gladiator helmets, murals and graffiti.
The Rosticceria was one of two new restaurants announced by The Maggiore Group in August 2022. The second is the recently opened Italiano. The group's roster of restaurants also includes Hash Kitchen, The Sicilian Butcher, The Sicilian Baker and The Mexicano.
The latter is now poised to temporarily take over the space vacated by The Rosticceria.
The Mexicano temporarily takes over The Rosticceria
Just a few weeks after its Italian sibling's closure, The Mexicano will begin a pop-up in the former Rosticceria starting Oct. 15.The Mexican-inspired restaurant closed at its original location in August following a kitchen fire. While that restaurant, which is located on Cactus Road near Tatum Boulevard, undergoes final repairs and renovations, customers will be able to enjoy its lunch and dinner menus in the nearby Rosticceria space.
The building will be transformed to “offer the same vibrant decor and interactive dining that has made (The Mexicano) a Valley favorite since its 2021 debut,” according to the release.
Diners can expect the return of The Mexicano’s popular fusion dishes, such as its birria bao buns, and a happy hour that includes $3 tacos and specials on draft beers, margaritas and other cocktails.
The Mexicano pop-up will continue through the end of the year until its original location is ready to reopen on Cactus Road where "chef Joey and his team are bringing exciting new elements, enhanced dining experiences and a fresh twist on the concept," according to the release.
Once The Mexicano’s pop-up concludes, Maggiore plans to debut a new, unannounced concept at the former Rosticceria.
In the meantime, work continues to restore The Mexicano and open a second location in Chandler, slated to arrive in early 2025.
