Chef-owner Matt McLinn has given new life to this ritzy Scottsdale strip mall spot, formerly home to Restaurant Hapa. The casual, rustic European atmosphere has warm harvest colors, touches of art nouveau on the walls, and a family-size wooden table in the middle of the dining room. As for the menu, McLinn specializes in Mediterranean-inspired creations, including paella, risotto, and osso buco. Memorable appetizers include roasted day boat scallops with champagne peach crème and brown butter, as well as foie gras with plum tart and lavender gastrique. For entrees, there are classics -- hanger steak, prime rib, and filet mignon -- along with more inventive dishes like open-faced roast pork ravioli, and roasted sturgeon with aromatic mushrooms. You have to sit in the bar area to try the tapas menu, but the flavors wont disappoint. Highlights include salty duck confit with minuscule mandarin-flavored beignets, grilled white peaches in vanilla bean nage, and brioche with creamy corn and shrimp. For dessert, sink into the chocolate croissant bread pudding with Baileys crème anglaise -- its warm, bursting with cocoa, and insanely good.
