Beautiful, secluded, atmospheric: just some of the adjectives that can be used to describe the desert charm of the Hermosa Inn and its acclaimed restaurant Lon’s. Once the home of cowboy artist Alonzo “Lon” Megargee, this “Casa Hermosa,” or “beautiful house,” is true to its name, a hand-crafted oasis of 1930s Southwestern gentility. Though Megargee’s art still hangs on the walls, the chief artist at work here now is executive chef Michael Rusconi, whose carefully prepared Southwestern cuisine features humanely raised meats, fish and fowl, as well as herbs and heirloom fruits and veggies grown on the Inn’s grounds. Menu highlights include butternut squash soup, Dungeness crab cake, and grilled beef tenderloin medallions. Outstanding desserts like the pumpkin crème brûlée are not to be missed.
